EPISODE 66 of Z-GR! Radio
October 31, 2025
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear and what I like. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I include artists from the playlist, though for time availabilty reasons, I’ve moved most of my attention to the show. I include new artists as well as artists who have appeared on past episodes.
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 950+ great tracks on that list and he updates often.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- We occasionally select artists for our NEWHD Featured Artist program. I’ll note those artists as they appear, and there are links to them at newhdradio.com/zgr.
Have fun with the list , enjoy the artists/music and…
PLEASE share the page out on your Socials!

Z-GR! Radio Episode 66 Lineup
Glenn Gatsby /Ashley Slater - Grim Grinning Ghosts (Electro Swing Mix)
Our opener this week is a perfect example of why II absolutely love Electro swing – Glenn Gatsby & Ashley Slater transforms Disney’s haunted classic into a jazzy, high-energy séance – Spooky horns, sly vocals, and vintage swing collide in our opener this week – this is The Electro Swing Mix of ‘Grim Grinning Ghosts’.

No Small Children - Ghostbusters
Formed in 2012, No Small Children is a Los Angeles-based rock trio made up of Lisa Pimentel (vocals/guitar), Joanie Pimentel (bass/vocals), and Nikol Elia (drums/vocals). All three are elementary school teachers by day and high-energy rockers by night—blending humor, heart, and raw power in their music. Their rock version of ‘Ghostbusters’ featured in the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, introducing their fierce yet fun style to a global audience.
Inhuman 666 - Mr. Crowley
After losing Ozzy Osbourne this year, I thought it would be appropriate to include a cover of his enduring classic ‘Mr Crowley’ on the Halloween show – I went through a long list of covers, but New York’s Inhuman 666 stood out with their 2024 version by focusing more on the spooky Aleister Crowley’s goth mythology than simply replicating the original.
Thunder Station - Cry Little Sister
‘Cry Little Sister’ first appeared in 1987 on the soundtrack for the film The Lost Boys and is considered a cult goth/rock anthem. There are a bunch of really great takes on the vampire movie staple out there, but Scotland band Thunder Station’s version stood out with a nice blend of electronic/synth textures and heavy rock instrumentation. Fun fact – I was at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk one of the nights the film was shot there, and it’s pretty cool that the Lost Boys has become such an enduring classic.
Lesbian Bed Death - Party Time (45 Grave Cover)
45 Grave was a pioneering Los Angeles punk band formed in 1979. They were instrumental in blending punk rock energy with gothic horror themes, helping define the early goth sound alongside Bauhaus and The Sisters of Mercy. Like Bauhaus, 45 Grave rose to awareness by featuring on the soundtrack of a major movie release, in this case, their track ‘Partytime’ was included in the legendary and groundbreaking Horror comedy, Return of the Living Dead.

Olive Dares the Darkness - No Heart
Olive Dares the Darkness is an electro-punk band based in Charleston, South Carolina. I really dig their debut album, and ‘No Heart’, the second track on the record opens with a dialogue from 1969’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’, the zombie flick that started it all, which makes it perfect for this episode.

Melodicka Bros - Zombie (Cyberpunk)
I know, I know, ‘Zombie’ by the Cranberries, isn’t about flesh eating undead monsters eating brains, but the truth is that this excellent cover of the track by the Molodsicka Bros fits perfectly into the show’s vibe with its techno-grave dark synths, industrial textures, and a future‑dystopian vibe. This Cyberpunk mix is fantastic.
Bella Lune - Dead Souls
‘Dead Souls’ is a Joy Division classic, but in my mind, Nine Inch Nails did it better in every way on the 1994 Crow soundtrack project, which is one of greatest soundtrack albums ever, In my humble opinion – I went hunting for a cool modern take on the track and came across a super cool version by Arizona’s Bela Luna. They’ve been around since 2006 and have a great sound that blends darkwave, synthy post-punk and just the right amount of dreampop.
Susanne L. - Halloween
Germany’s Susanne L. is a bit of mystery, there really isn’t a lot out there about her, but I know this – her track ‘Halloween’, is a gem, and I’ve been holding it for this show for a while now. She runs from piano mellow to tear your face off metal, and it’s all good, so check her stuff out.
Zero-G Racetrack - Never Ride Alone
You can’t have Z-GR! Radio without some Z-GR!, which works out because ‘Never Ride Alone’ is the electro-country Ghost story by my band, Zero-G Racetrack. It’s about the repercussions of rushing headlong and alone into dangerous situations without thinking about who you might leave behind and who you might spend eternity haunting as a result.

Dukes of Note - Pink Elephants on Parade
South Africa’s Dukes of Note have a sound described as a blend of Balkan rhythms, gypsy punk, vintage blues, swing, and rock ’n’ roll – to my ears, they sound a lot like the second coming of Oingo Boingo, but with a bit more bite – I love what they do, and their dark‑carnival aesthetics lend themselves perfectly to the only live track ever featured on Z-GR! Radio – this is a banging cover of 1941’s ‘Pink Elephants on Parade’.

The Nearly Deads - You're Dead
The fact that the Vampire comedy ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ is no more is an ongoing source of personal chagrin, but the show, which I like to call ‘The Monty Python Vampires’ left behind an outstanding theme song called ‘You’re Dead’. The song was originally performed by Norma Tanega, who died at the age of 80 in 2019 – this version, by Nashville’s The Nearly Dead, ups the energy and breathes life into the track – see what I did there?
Paralandra - Time Warp
It’s the 50th Anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show this year, and for those of us who have seen the movie in theaters hundreds of times and know every line of dialogue forwards and back wards, there is something to be said for the idea that warping time backwards a decade or two might be worth the effort. I played Riff Raff in the midnight movie production, so I’m in tune with the classic song ‘Time Warp’, and Missouri’s Paralandra has a great take on the track and a cool video to go along with it that’s definitely worth checking out.
Mister the Kid / Dimi Kaye - Darkness
Dimi Kaye is a Z-GR! Radio favorite, and back in 2021, he teamed up with the Motion Epic’s guitarist Mister the Kid for a shredfest homage to TIm Curry’s legendary performance as the Lord of Darkness in Ridley Scott’s 1985 film Legend. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself an immediate solid and check it out.
