EPISODE 59 of Z-GR! Radio
August 08, 2025
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear and what I like. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I include artists from the playlist, though for time availabilty reasons, I’ve moved most of my attention to the show. I include new artists as well as artists who have appeared on past episodes.
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 950+ great tracks on that list and he updates often.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- We occasionally select artists for our NEWHD Featured Artist program. I’ll note those artists as they appear, and there are links to them at newhdradio.com/zgr.
Have fun with the list , enjoy the artists/music and…
PLEASE share the page out on your Socials!
Z-GR! Radio Episode 59 Lineup
Able Machines - Can You Keep A Secret
Rumor has it that Able Machines was formed when Tay Côlieé was searching for musical gear on Craigslist and came across a “wanted” ad posted by Linus Dotson. Despite the unconventional meeting, they quickly discovered shared musical interests and began collaborating. Truthfully, all I care about is that they keep making fantastic music – they’ve become a regular here on Z-GR! Radio and for good reason – this week’s opener and 6th appearance of Able Machines on the show is ‘Can You Keep A Secret’ off of their 2021 album release ‘Pathological’.

Black Cab - Rosler's Rules
2022’s “Dilemma” is a single by the Manchester-based Sea Fever who first appeared on the show on Episode 47 – they are a British indie/electronic supergroup that formed in 2020, consisting of members from iconic bands within the Manchester and UK post-punk and alternative scenes including New Order’s Tom Chapman and Phil Cunningham. The band took 3 years off but are back in 2025 with an album release and they’ve been playing out, so check them out if you can.
Tin Gun - Devil's & Angels (Director's Cut)
Formed in 2018, Tin Gun is an enigmatic electronic collective from the UK, comprising established musicians Tim Dorney, Peter Steer, Mark Trueman, and Nik Hodges – ‘Devils & Angels was released in 2021 and there are several versions out there – my favorite is the ‘Director’s Cut ‘which adds a bit more depth and atmosphere compared to the standard radio edit.
Zero-G Racetrack - My Baby Done Left Me
That was ‘My Baby Done Left Me’ by my band, Zero-G Racetrack – I decided to see if I could write a breakup song without being a bummer, so I decided to tell the story over an upbeat pop track, and it seems to have worked out. Personally, I think the blues guitar solo at the end really seals the vibe.

Toys - Fast Food
The band “Toys” who recorded the song “Fast Food” is a project involving Wayne Murray who is credited as composer and producer. He’s a British singer-songwriter known for fronting bands like Thirteen:13 and Boy Cried Wolf, and has toured as guitarist with Manic Street Preachers. Not much else is known about the band, and but the song is great so it’s on the show.
Minka - Cemetery Postcard
Philadelphia-based alternative pop group MINKA is a trio made up of Kara Morley, Tommy Giannone and Jared Mees on Bass, “Cemetery Postcard” is a track that appears on their 2021 album Oops! All Bangers. I like everything about this band – they’ve got a great late 70’s early 80’s sound and a fun sense of here and image to go with it.
NUDO - Decoy
NUDO AKA Manuela Nudo is a Toronto‑based musician and multidisciplinary artist known for themes of dark romanticism, personal loss drawn from influences like Native American drum circles and Latin percussion styles. SHe’s just started releasing tracks in early 2025, ‘Decoy’ is her third and latest, and I like what I’ve heard so far.
Alternative State, Georgenson, Animator, Rev Theory - Black Hole Sun
This week’s cover is a re-imagining of one of Soundgarden’s most iconic songs – released in 1994 as the third single from their critically acclaimed album Superunknown. The track peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks and helped Superunknown debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 and remains a haunting reminder of CHris Cornell’s vocal power and lyrical depth. RIP Chris –
This cover an odd bird, and you’ll hear why – the track takes a VERY different approach to the song to the point that it could be mistaken as being a completely different song altogether – I’d urge you to give it a chance, as it is very powerful in its own right, and the more I’ve heard it the better it gets. This 2025 cover of Black Hole Sun is by a multitude of artists including Alternative State, Georgenson, Animator and Rev Theory and it’s very, very cool.
The Utopiates - Montezuma
2025’s “Montezuma” is the latest single by The Utopiates, a London-based indie-electronic duo made up of Dan Popplewell on vocals and guitar and Ian Bright on drums – the track is the fourth single from their forthcoming second album, anticipated for an early 2026 release date.
LehtMoJoe - Forever and A Day
“Forever and a Day” is a track by American electronic hip hop artist LehtMoJoe (Vincent Sliva), released as a single in May 2020 – LehtMoJoe is a multifaceted artist from Dallas, Texas, known for his genre-blending approach that fuses electronic, hip hop, and rock elements. His stage name pays homage to his favorite Dallas Stars hockey players from the late 1990s: Jere Lehtinen, Mike Modano, and Joe Nieuwendyk. Since his debut in 2009 with the album Spaghetti Western, LehtMoJoe has gained recognition for his innovative remixes and original compositions, earning airplay on platforms like BBC Radio 1 and The Hype Machine Radio.
