EPISODE 55 of Z-GR! Radio
July 04, 2025
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear and what I like. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I include artists from the playlist, though for time availabilty reasons, I’ve moved most of my attention to the show. I include new artists as well as artists who have appeared on past episodes.
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 950+ great tracks on that list and he updates often.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- We occasionally select artists for our NEWHD Featured Artist program. I’ll note those artists as they appear, and there are links to them at newhdradio.com/zgr.
Have fun with the list , enjoy the artists/music and…
PLEASE share the page out on your Socials!
Z-GR! Radio Episode 55 Lineup
vverevvolf - Laughing Til I Cry
vverevvolf is a SF Bay Area–based synth‑pop/alt‑pop duo formed by Kelsey LaRae and Dylan Gallagher. They’ve been defunct for several years – their last single was released back in 2020 – and I had all but given up on them when out of the blue, an Instagram post announcing that they were back with a new single showed up in my feed and I couldn’t be more excited. ‘Laughing Til I Cry’ is really great, and I’m looking forward to what’s coming next.
Into the Blood - Stay Forever
Into the Blood is a Copenhagen-based synthpop/electropop duo made up of Jens Brygmann and Carsten Bo Andersen. They’ve been active since around 2016, and have a sound that runs from upbeat dance tracks to moody, darkwave soundscapes. ‘Stay Forever’ was released in 2019 and there are some cool remixes available that aer worth checking out.

Pretty Ugly - Eat My Words
‘Eat My Words’ is the 2023 debut single from the Los Angeles–based alternative pop band, PrettyUgly. The trio is made up of Parker Goff Chrisbens, Quinn Smialek and Joey Cavallo who met in college in NYC and are really starting to make their mark. There’s a cool article on the band at onetowatch.com, and there is a link below.
Big Image - Cool Kids
‘Cool Kids’ is off of the Big Image’s excellent 2019 release Dreamtime – they’ve had a string of excellent releases since then, and have indicated that they’re working on new material, which is awesome. They paly out frequently in the U.K., so catch them if you can.
Alcabean - Rookie
Alcabean is a Danish alternative rock band formed by brothers Victor and Julius Schack and later expanded to include Lucas Olierookand Joachim Holmsgaard – “Rookie” is a track from Alcabean’s 2019 album Confessions. The song showcases their evolution from the raw, grunge-influenced sound to a more polished, indie-pop-rock style.
Gone Sugar Die - Depression
Gone Sugar Die is an electro-pop duo formed by Patrick McWilliams and Mike Hindert – they blend indie, synth-punk, and dark romance, creating a sound that is both danceable and emotionally resonant – I really like these guys – ‘Depression’ was released in 2023, and showcases the duo’s ability to craft catchy, danceable tunes with deeper emotional undertones .

Zero-G Racetrack - Never Ride Alone
Zero-G Racetrack’s ‘Never Ride Alone’ is an electro-western anthem that combines the storytelling of classic country western legends with the retro-future allure of electronic rock. Fusing elements of synth-based pop/rock with the familiar themes of classic cinematic Westerns and described by the band as an ‘outlaw ghost story’, the lyrics warn of the consequences of charging alone into circumstances against the advice of those who care about you.

Close to Monday - Leaves
Close to Monday is a European synth-pop duo made up of Ann on vocals and producer Alexander – ‘Leaves’ is part of the band’s ongoing series of monthly single releases, with each track communicating a snapshot of emotional experiences. I absolutely love this track, so I decided to put it in your ears for a third time here on Z-GR! Radio.

Alabama 3 - Yolanda
London’s Alabama 3 formed in 1995 and are best known for supplying the theme song for the Sopranos back in 1997 – the band has since released 13 studio albums blending social commentary, party anthems, and biting political satire . It works surprisingly well. ‘Yolanda’ was written in response to U.S. protests following George Floyd’s death and I really love what they self-describe as the ‘country‑techno gospel’ vibe of the track.

Kingston & Greystarr - Suffragette City
Kingston & GreyStarr are indeed a duo composed of two female vocalists, one from New York and the other from the UK, who came together in Old Vegas as backup singers – they’ve shared the stage with iconic acts like A Flock of Seagulls, Tiffany, and Eric Martin. In February 2020, they released a cover of David Bowie’s “Suffragette City” as part of their EP Covered In Glitter, which reimagines classic new wave and rock songs with a modern twist.
Bone and Marrow - Breaking Ground
Gene Dante - Diamond in A Trash Can
A big Thank You goes out to Z-GR! Radio Favorite Amy Douglass for pointing a spotlight at Gene Dante – I put him in my ears and was blown away. From the jump – ‘Diamond in a Trash Can’ puts Blade Runner, Bowie and Rocky Horror vibes in a blender and scores an instant home run – the track, which was co-written by the one and only Grace Jones, can be found on 2021’s DL/UX album, along with a bunch of other great tracks, so go get in it.
