Greg Sover – Living on the Edge
I always look for an instant and driving groove to open the show, and Greg Sover’s ‘Living on the Edge’ fits the bill – He has a mid-90’s vocal tone that would make Monster Magnet proud and of course, I’m always up for a killer guitar solo.

Black Tie Event – Freak Out
Black Tie Event was founded in 2014 by brothers Mike and Noah Andelin – I believe that they are from the Provo, Utah area. I really like their straight-forward rock sound which puts multiple genres into a blender and kicks out songs like ‘Freak Out’, which lays an interesting pop vocal over a straight-forward rock track. Pretty cool.
Lord Sunny the Unifier – I Think We’ve Been Had
Brooklyn’s Lord Sonny The Unifier has a few things going for him – first, the 70’s rocker look is on point, right down to the handlebars on his face, the burns on the sides and his aviators. His sound, which is self described as ‘Psychedelic Garage Biker Rock with dirty synths’ is awesome – ‘I Think We’ve Been Had’ is as great as it sounds like it should be.

Swamp Daisies – Blue Gold
Swamp Daisies are Tania Bowra and Melanie Forbes, longtime friends who decided to get a band together to celebrate their love of classic rock, indie and soul music. I absolutely love their sound – I went through multiple tracks before settling in on ‘Blue Gold’ – I’m happy to report that there’s more where that came from, so make sure you check them out.
JJ Lovegrove – Trouble
JJ Lovegrove is a NEWHD Featured Artist, and you can find links to her Take 5 interview and information on her latest release ‘Unravelled: The Eligies’ at zgrradio.com/jjlg. Although I do love that EP, ‘Trouble’ is one of my favorites – it’s off of her album 2023 release ‘The Lines We Leave Behind’.

12 Below – Farlight
When a band creates a vibe so uniquely their own that you just have to sink into their sound, you want to share it with as many people as you can, I had 12 Below’s ‘Farlight’ on the show way back on Episode 6 and I figured it was time to remind everyone as to how great it is. The song hit my radar in early ‘2022, and remains a favorite, but there’s a lot to like in their library, so take the time to check it out.
Racing – Flashbacks
Auckland- based Racing is ridiculously great – for the uninitiated, their debut record ‘Real Dancing’ was nominated for Best Rock Artist at the 2019 Vodafone New Zealand and they are one of my favorite Z-GR! Radio artists. This is their third time on the show and I’ve reached back to their 2022 album ‘Must Be The Moon’ for ‘Flashbacks’.

Stray Pursuit – Where Did It All Go Wrong?
Swansea’s The Stray Pursuit has become one of my go-to Rock artists for the show and for good reason – they’ve got a fantastic handle on laying solid guitar riffs under catchy vocals, so it’s no wonder that they have a reputation for outstanding live shows in the U.K. ‘Where Did I Go Wrong’ is the third track to be featured on the show.
Seacruisers – Please Don’t Touch
YouTube put Motorhead’s 1981 collaboration with Girlschool, ‘Please Don’t Touch’ in my face the other day and I immediately started looking for a modern take on the track. Originally released by Johnny Kid & the Pirates way back in 1959 the track was also covered by the Stray Cats in the early 90’s. I found a 2019 version by the Seacruisers, of group of guys from Michigan who seem to like getting together to cover their favorite tracks from back in the day and was really impressed with their sound.
Pennan Brae – Space Surf Navigate
I am a fan of Vancouver’s Pennan Brae – aside from making a couple of really cool films and recording a couple of really cool soundtrack albums and a bunch of groovy songs, the has a keen eye behind the lens and shows up in my social feeds with his really cool shots from in and around Vancouver. ‘Space Surf Navigate’ is the leadoff track from 2021’s ‘The Garden Series Volume 1: The Planted.

Zero-G Racetrack – Never Ride Alone
I don’t have a favorite Zero-G Racetrack song, but if I did, it just might be ‘Never Ride Alone’, our electro-country Ghost story. It’s about the repercussions of rushing headlong and alone into dangerous situations without thinking about who you might leave behind and who you might spend eternity haunting as a result.

Sweet Tempest – My Boulder
I came across Sweet Tempest in 2022, and while they had some stream traffic then, it’s nothing like what they’ve got going on now. I was pleasantly surprised a few months back when I stumbled across and recognized a cover version of ‘Mine’, and once you hear the song, and the rest of Sweet Tempests’ library, it’s easy to hear why they’re well over a million streams on several of their tracks – this time around, I reached back to 2018’s ‘Snow’ EP for the catchy ‘My Boulder’.

Niina Soleil – Flowers on Fire
I’m late to the Niina Soleil party, but I’m glad to have had stumbled across her stuff – she’s got a fantastic voice and a really great sound – aside from ‘Flowers on Fire’, her latest record ‘Heliophilia’ has a ton of cool tracks, so make sure you take the record for a spin.
