Week 42 - February 28, 2025
EPISODE 42 of Z-GR! Radio
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I pull from tracks/artists on the playlist (current and archived) and include newer finds that might not be on the list yet (but likely will be).
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 900+ great tracks on that list.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- I’m working with NEWHD on a Featured Artist program, and I’ll note those artists as they appear.
Have fun with the list below, enjoy the artists/music and…

Z-GR! Radio Episode 42 Lineup
Dust Breaks / Jak - Crossed
This week’s opener is by Silicon Valley Dj and Producer Vijay Jayant, AKA Dust Breaks – I met Vijay through his work with House of Asha – they’ve had joints on Episode 7 and again on episode 15 – this time, he’s paired with rapper JAK – this track is high energy from the jump and the perfect way to kick off this, Episode 42 of Z-GR! Radio. This is ‘Crossed’ and you’re hearing it here on NEWHD Rock Evolution.

Radio Wolf / Kelli Ali - Heartbreaker Automatic
Radio Wolf is Canadian Producer Oliver Blair, who seems to have a knack for working with outstanding collaborators on really cool projects – it makes sense, as he’s got a great sound and though he’s been working with the fantastic Nina lately, I’ve reached back to 2017’ ‘Heartbreak Automatic’ and his intro EP for a joint with ex-Sneaker Pimps vocalist Kelli Ali.

Ralphy Grey / Sandy Sage / Mint Gazelle - Release the Beast - Mint Gazelle Mix
Glass Apple Bonzai / Eric Gottesman / Jamie Cronander - Tarzan Boy
Back in 1985, an Italian band called Baltimora released their debut single – it touched a nerve and remains memorable to this day for all the right reasons. Billboard described it as a “summertime smash in Europe, thanks to a maddeningly catchy swinging-through-the-vines hook.” There’s truth to that statement, and Ontario’s Glass Apple Bonzai, AKA Daniel Belasco, brings the ‘Tarzan Boy’ to life with the help of Jamie Cronander on Guitar and Eric Gottesman on Vocals.

Zero-G Racetrack - Enjoy Today
‘Enjoy Today’, was muy band, Zero-G Racetrack’s second release. It’s the only track of the first album lineup that doesn’t have a monster anthemic chorus, so we added the keyboard riff at the last minute, and truth to tell, I can’t imagine the song without it. I’ve been teasing a really cool extended version, it does exist and we’re hoping to have it out around summertime.

Billy Mick - No Love Will Ever Do
I really don’t have a good excuse as to why it’s been so long since I’ve had Episode 15 opener Billy Mick back on the show, but that’s easy enough to fix- I’ve been a fan since I first heard his 2020 album ‘Just B.’ and this track ‘No Love Will Ever Do’ kicks off this week’s Disco Dance Block, because….Disco Dance Block.
Sophie Lloyd / Amy Douglas - Sweet Love - Sweet Lovin' Mix
Z-GR! Radio favorite Amy Douglas is on the show again, but I don’t think that it’s a surprise to anyone with ears – for the ‘Sweet Lovin’ Mix’ of ‘Sweet Love’ she’s teamed with London DJ Sophie Lloyd for what might be the best modern reminder of why Disco is so very awesome.

Actors - We Don't Have to Dance
It’s been a minute since I noticed that Z-GR! Radio artist Josie Pace was doing a gig with Vancouver’s Actors – they were just starting to blow up then, but years of touring and some really great music have rewarded them with a growing fanbase – 2018’s ‘We Don’t Have to Dance’ is the track that caught my attention back in 2022.

Nite - Oblivion (My Obsession)
Nite is a Texas trio of twin brothers Myles and Kyle Mendes and drummer Phil Helms. I was taken immediately not only with their retro modern vibe but their huge sound – it’s big, it’s fat and you can hear everything in the mix. I really, really like these guys and ‘Oblivion (My Obsession)’ is awesome.

Sulferized Inhabitants of the Matchbook - The Riddle of Stupidity
I’ve been a fan of ‘Sulferized Inhabitants of the Matchbook’ since I first heard them back in 2021, and I’ve been hoping for new material ever since – the band did release a new album called ‘Venture On’ last summer, but to be honest it got past me until this last week, so I spent some time ears on and this track ‘The Riddle of Stupidity’ is everything I’ve been waiting for from the band.
7th Grade Girl Fight - Santa Cruz
7th Grade Girl Fight is out of the D.C. area – it’s no secret that I really like lyrics that tell cool stories and as someone who is in Santa Cruz nearly weekly and very familiar with the Boardwalk’s sky ride, ‘Santa Cruz’ touched me in all the right places. This band is really smart, really musical, and I really like them a lot.

Sorrows - Out of My Head
I heard from New York City’s ‘Sorrows’ back in January and again recently because their 1981 album ‘Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow’ is finally releasing – they gave me a bump a few days ago , so I found a minute to put the first single from the record in my ears and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The track definitely has a late 70’s early 80’s vibe, and yet still sounds remarkably modern. I know, you hear that a lot, so I figured I’d let ‘Out of My Head’ speak for itself.

PsySurf - Quasar
In late 2022’s Brazil’s PsySurf turned up in a social media thread I was invited to which proves that you never know when or where a new favorite will turn up – as soon as I heard ‘Quasar’ I was immediately taken with its unique synth textures layered over a loping and definitely groovy bass line. It’s short, but very sweet.
