EPISODE 31 of Z-GR! Radio
December 06, 2024
The Invisible Squirrel returns for his second turn as Z-GR! Radio’s Featured Instrumental Artist! This time around, attention has been paid to the Squirrel’s latest release, ‘Filter Tips’.
The instrumental tracks play during VO breaks and ‘Lose Myself’ closes out the week. THANKS MUCH for the beds, Squirrel!
Alabama 3 / Wizard – (I Can’t) Keep Calm and Carry On (Remix)
Alabama 3’s been a touring machine in 2024, so it was a pleasant surprise to see a new release from them – the track, a remix by, Wizard AKA Greg Fleming, suits Z-GR! Radio perfectly, so I’m wasting no time putting it in your ears – this week’s opener is ‘(I Can’t) Keep Calm and Carry On’ here on NEWHD Rock Evolution.

Dark Minimal Project / Ruined Conflict – Ordinary Man (Ruined Conflict Remix)
France’s Dark Minimal Project, is a duo made up of Guillaume VDR and Ange Vesper – I was immediately impressed with their throwback 80’s vibe that sounds decidedly modern. They have a huge supply of remixes, but ‘Ordinary Man’ as remixed by Cleveland, Ohio Producer Xavier Morales, who goes by ‘Ruined Conflict’ got the nod for the show.

Elyxr / Purr Gato – Pressure
Producer Kasson Crooker started Elyxr as a platform for collaborations, and in this case, it’s Seattle‘s Purr Gato, made up of Katrina Kope, Tyler Kope and Devin Bews, and they got my attention with their excellent synth-driven cover of one of Billy Joel’s biggest hits, ‘Pressure’.

CatBear – Rush
CatBear’s ‘Rush’ been on my radar for quite some time, actually, and I decided to do something about that – Horus Music describes CATBEAR as having a unique popwave style combining 80s synth-poptimism, 90s riot grrrl spirit, 00s danceable post-punk revival, and the experimental and queer liberation of the 10s. CatBear describes themselves as 2 best pals making music, which is just as good in my book.

Colin and the Clouds – Lipstick Gun
I was listening to Episode 14 during a long drive and to be honest, I simply forgot how AWESOME Colin and the Clouds’ ‘Lipstick Gun’ is, so I decided to make sure to remind you how how AWESOME Colin and the Clouds’ ‘Lipstick Gun’ is so consider yourself reminded.
Weird Wolves – I Still Care
Austin’s Weird Wolves were a week one artist on the show and are a perennial Z-GR! Radio favorite. They’ve recently had a lineup shift, and I’m happy to report that band leader Raphael Colantonio seems to have the wolves on track and for this, their 4th appearance on the show, I went with ‘I Still Care’, a recent release that is absolutely awesome.

Prismatiqk – It’s Not All About You
Kent, England natives Steven Horry and Monaz Parry met at their kids’ school of all places, formed Prismatiqk and started making really great dreamy pop songs like ‘It’s Not All About You’. When I stumbled across their stuff I was amazed that more people don’t know about them, so I figured I’d do something about it.

Zero-G Racetrack! – I Remember
I’ll admit that my band Zero-G Racetrack had a slow release year, but hey, life is a thing and besides, we put a lot of energy into getting Z-GR! Radio off the ground. Of course, we did manage to release ‘I Remember’, a track that we’re really proud of because it’s awesome.

Julie Hicklin / The Find – Waiting
The Find’s Tom Pitt reached out to London’s Julie Hicklin on Instagram and the result is ‘Waiting’, which Julie describes as a ‘kind chant to our inner self, showing we can live life happily without our destructive demons stunting our opportunities.’ Great concept, and it doesn’t hurt that the song and her vocals sound fantastic.

Colin Christian – Storms of Ice
Colin Christian’s ‘Storms of Ice’ debuted way back on on Episode 2, and honestly, I’ve been meaning to get the track back on the show multiple times over the past few months, and I decided it needed to happen. This track is short, sweet and astonishingly great. I’ve linked his lyric video above and it’s worth taking a read.
Disco In Sochi – OMG
Disco in Sochi, AKA Liverpool’s Alex Allen’s ‘Cherry SevenUp’ is a favorite of mine, so when he dropped his latest, ‘OMG’ a few weeks back, I was all over it. The song is decidedly different from CherrySevenUP, but also decidedly the same, which I thought was a lot of fun and it’s definitely worth your time to listen to the two tracks back to back.

Young Ejecta – Screen Guru
Young Ejecta released a new track that was taken down almost as soon as it went up, but I was one of the 3400 or so people that heard it, and now I’m more excited than ever for new material from the band. Leanne Macomber’s voice is stunningly great, no lie, and since I have my own radio show called Z-GR! Radio, I figured I’d make sure you’ve heard it if by chance you haven’t. It was tough to pick just one Young Ejecta track, but ‘Screen Guru’ is a favorite of mine.
Invisible Squirrel – Lose Myself
The Invisible Squirrel invited me to a Bandcamp listening party for his latest, ‘Filter Tips’, so I stopped by and it was AWESOME. Every track was great, so when after things wrapped up, I asked him if he’d like to do another featured Instrumental Artist appearance – he said yes, and ‘Lose Myself’ is this week’s closer. ‘Filter Tips’ is a Bandcamp exclusive, and I guarantee you’ll dig it.
